Can Hackers Really Take Over Your Car? The Jeep Proved It

Most drivers trust their cars without question. You turn the key, press the pedal, and expect full control. But a famous test with a Jeep Cherokee showed that trust can be broken. Hackers proved they could take command of a car from miles away.

It started as a simple demo. The air vents blasted on full power. The radio switched stations without warning. The windshield wipers sprayed fluid across the glass even though the sky was clear. The driver thought it was a glitch—until the real danger began.

The researchers moved past the pranks. They sent commands to the transmission. The Jeep slowed down on a highway overpass with trucks rushing from behind. The accelerator was useless. The driver pressed down, but nothing happened. He had lost control of his own car.
