Your SIEM Cannot See Your AI Agents. Attackers Know This.

Stellar Cyber just published a threat landscape analysis for agentic AI in late 2026. The headline finding: NHI (non-human identity) compromise is the fastest-growing attack vector in enterprise infrastructure, according to the Huntress 2026 data breach report.

But the detail that should keep CISOs awake is this:

Your SIEM and EDR tools were built to detect anomalies in human behavior. An agent that runs code perfectly 10,000 times in sequence looks normal to these systems. But that agent might be executing an attacker's will.

This is the observability blind spot nobody is talking about. Traditional security tools pattern-match against human baselines — login times, geographic anomalies, typing patterns. An AI agent operating under attacker control looks identical to one operating normally, because both execute with perfect consistency.

Why Detection Fails

Stellar Cyber's analysis maps the shift:

  • Generative AI: sandbox, session-based memory, pattern-based detection (easier)
  • Agentic AI: read-write API access, persistent memory, behavioral detection (requires deep observability)

The attack surface isn't just wider — it's qualitatively different. Prompt injection, tool misuse, memory poisoning, cascading failures across agent chains, and supply chain attacks on agent dependencies. Your EDR wasn't built for any of this.

Their recommendation: apply Zero Trust principles not just to humans, but to every non-human entity acting in your infrastructure.

The Identity Gap

Here's what Zero Trust for agents actually requires:

  1. Cryptographic identity — not API keys or display names. Something that proves which specific agent is making each request.
  2. Behavioral baselines — continuous observation of what an agent actually does, not just what scopes it holds.
  3. Trust scoring — real-time assessment of whether an agent's behavior matches its historical patterns.
