📏 The spec that gets photos rejected isn't the size — it's the head
Everyone gets the millimetres right and the head height wrong. Rejections come from face proportion, background and expression far more often than from the crop dimensions.

Specifications change, and every issuing authority publishes its own current rules. Use the presets here to get the geometry right, then check the size, background colour and any date/KB requirement against the official page for your document before you submit. The five things that actually fail
- 😐 Expression — neutral, mouth closed. No smile, however small.
- 🌫️ Background — plain white or off-white, no shadow behind the head, no doorframe.
- 👓 Glasses — increasingly not allowed at all; glare or frames over the eyes fail even where they are.
- 💡 Lighting — even, from the front. Overhead light casts eye-socket shadows that read as "face obscured".
- 💇 Hair over the eyes or face edge — the outline of your face must be visible.

💡 Tip
Shoot in daylight near a window, facing the light, with the camera at eye level and about an arm's length away. Phone selfie cameras at close range distort the nose; use the rear camera with a timer if you can. Then check the current official spec once before submitting.

Is my photo uploaded?
No. It's cropped and processed in your browser. Nothing about your face is transmitted or stored.
Will an official authority accept a home-made photo?
Yes, if it meets the published spec — size, head proportion, plain background, neutral expression, even lighting. Nothing requires a studio. Getting the spec right is the whole job.
Can I take it on my phone?
Yes. Rear camera, good daylight, plain wall, arm's length, camera at eye level.
The portal also has a KB limit. What do I do?

Glasses — allowed or not?
Increasingly not. Many authorities now prohibit them outright, and where they're permitted, glare or frames crossing the eyes will still fail. Take them off.
