Acer's gaming monitor range covers the premium Predator line and the budget-friendly Nitro series. The OSD menus share a similar structure but differ in available options.
Picture Mode
Predator: Start with User mode to get full manual control over all settings. Action mode boosts brightness and contrast aggressively which can clip highlights.
Nitro: Use User mode or Standard. Gaming modes on Nitro panels often over-saturate colors.
Overdrive (Response Time)
Acer labels overdrive as OD or VRB depending on model.
Predator IPS models:
- Set OD to Normal
- Extreme setting causes clear inverse ghosting on most Predator IPS panels
Nitro VA models:
- VA panels are slower than IPS. Set OD to Extreme or High to reduce ghosting
- VA overdrive is more aggressive — test with a moving gray block against a dark background
Brightness and Contrast
- Brightness — 50–70 depending on room lighting. Acer factory defaults run bright
- Contrast — 50. Acer's contrast slider clips blacks below 50 on most models
Sharpness
Set to 4–6 on a 0–11 scale. Acer's sharpness setting adds artificial edge enhancement above 6 that makes text and UI elements look jagged.
Color Temperature
Warm or manual R:255 G:248 B:235 approximates 6500K on most Acer panels. The default Cool setting adds a noticeable blue cast.
VRB (Visual Response Boost)
Acer's backlight strobing feature available on some Predator models. It cannot run simultaneously with FreeSync/G-Sync. Most users leave it off in favor of adaptive sync which works at variable frame rates.
Adaptive Sync
Enable FreeSync in the OSD. Predator monitors with G-Sync hardware will detect Nvidia cards automatically. Nitro monitors are FreeSync only — enable G-Sync Compatible in Nvidia Control Panel for Nvidia users.
Dark Boost
Predator's shadow-lift feature. Setting 2 helps spot enemies in dark environments. Setting 4+ makes black levels visibly gray.
