Does ChatGPT recommend your business? 27 checks we run in 30 seconds

More customers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity "who is a good dentist near me" or "which agency should build my site" before they open Google. If the assistant never names your business, you lose that customer without ever seeing them.

We built a free tool that checks this for one business in about 30 seconds: AI visibility check. Here is what it looks at and why each point matters.

1. The AI answer (3 checks)

  • A recommendation question without your name. We ask an AI assistant that reads live search results the question a customer would ask in your field, then look for your business in the answer and note its place.
  • What the assistant knows about you. Wrong prices, an old address or a mix-up with a similar brand are common, and they cost trust.

2. Google (5 checks)

  • Search for your name, for your service and a buyer's search ("best X in Y").
  • Whether you appear in the map pack.
  • Who is in the top 10 instead of you.

AI search tools lean heavily on search results, so a business that is invisible in Google is rarely named by AI.

3. The website (17 checks)

The basics that decide whether a visitor, a search engine or an AI crawler can read and trust the site:

Group What we check
Access the site opens, HTTPS, load speed, mobile layout
Search snippet page title, description, H1, link preview
Contact phone and tap-to-call, WhatsApp/Telegram buttons, a request form
Trust prices, reviews, business markup (schema.org)
Machines robots.txt access for AI crawlers, sitemap.xml, llms.txt

In our own study of 157 small business sites from Google's first page, 78% missed at least one of three basics: visible prices, a messenger link or a contact form. Details and open data: We checked 178 small business websites.

What the check does not do

  • Google positions differ by location and device, so the report is one honest snapshot, not a ranking guarantee.
  • The report always names the AI engine it used.
  • If a site blocks automated visitors, those points are marked "not checked" instead of "broken".

The check is free and needs no sign-up: veilvex.com/tools/ai-visibility-check. If you want a deeper look at why AI assistants pick some businesses over others, see How to get ChatGPT to recommend your business.
