1440p or 4K monitor? 4K has sharper text but needs a powerful GPU. 1440p balances sharpness and performance.
I tested both to show you exactly when each makes sense.
Resolution Difference
1440p: 2560 x 1440 pixels (3.7 million)
4K: 3840 x 2160 pixels (8.3 million)
4K has 2.25x more pixels.
What that means in practice:
27" monitor at arm's length:
- 1440p: Sharp, individual pixels barely visible
- 4K: Razor sharp, completely smooth
Big difference at 32"+. Minimal difference at 24-27".
Gaming Performance (RTX 4070)
Cyberpunk 2077 (Ultra settings):
- 1440p: 95 FPS
- 4K: 42 FPS
Valorant (High settings):
- 1440p: 340 FPS
- 4K: 180 FPS
You'll need to lower graphics settings or upgrade GPU for smooth 4K gaming.
