I wanted to ask Claude "what's still open with my clients?" and get an answer from WhatsApp, where those conversations live. So WA Folders 1.3 added an MCP connection: your AI agent can read the WhatsApp Web folders you allow, and nothing else.
What you need
- Chrome with WhatsApp Web open
- WA Folders from the Chrome Web Store
- Node.js 18 or newer
- An MCP app: Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex, or any other
Steps
- Download the agent bridge from https://wafolders.com/ai-agent/, unzip it and run
install-windows.ps1(Windows) orbash install-mac-linux.sh(Mac). - Add the MCP server the installer prints to your agent app. In Claude Desktop it looks like
{"mcpServers":{"wa-folders":{"command":"node","args":["<path>/wa-folders-agent.js"]}}}. - Open the WA Folders options page, find AI agent access (off by default), tick Allow AI agent access and tick the folders the agent can see.
- Ask something: "Summarize my chat with Ana" or "What's waiting on a reply in Clients?"
What the agent can and can't do
- It can search and summarize chats in allowed folders.
- If you tick the extra box, it can move chats between your ticked folders and set reminders.
- It never sends a WhatsApp message.
- Everything runs on your computer. There is no WA Folders server and nothing goes to the cloud from the extension.
- Revoke all agent access with one click in the same panel.
