Is Linux something for 'serious programmers'
Linux looks hard, but is it really?
For someone who has never used it, there he is looking at a black terminal filled with commands can make him see it as an operating system designed for programmers, cyber security experts or people speaking fluent computer language.
But really, what's the reality?
Just like a child starting school he clearly knows nothing but the teacher takes them through studies and slowly learn and comprehend all those staffs that were clearly viewed as new or rather hard to them.
Linux has a learning curve. Once you get the basics, many of the things initially seen as complicated become interestingly simple.
WHY DO PEOPLE THINK LINUX IS DIFFICULT
Lets talk about the commands that look unfamiliar. When someone sees words such as ls, pwd, cd, mkdir they look so complicated, but their purposes so direct.
But again what are you trying to do. Do you want to understand or 'cram'
You need to understand what you want to do, then learn the command that accomplishes it.
There are many technical terminologies used that can make someone find it as 'too much'
Do not compare Linux to familiar systems like windows. Comparison is the enemy of progress. Find delight in what you are willing to learn.
Start with basic concepts such as:
- Files and directories
- Paths
- Permissions
- Processes
- Installing software
Gradually move into more advanced areas.
The difficulty isn't always Linux itself, it's simply being new to it.
Linux isn't hard operating system as many beginners imagine it to be. You don't need to understand everything before you can use it.
Start small, learn, understand and practice.
The black terminal you found intimidating will eventually be just another tool you are comfortable with.
