We built a marketplace where skills are the currency

Hi, I am part of the team behind worXwap. Quick disclosure before anything else: this is our own app, and I would love your honest feedback on the idea.

The starting point was a simple frustration. Plenty of talented people cannot afford to hire other talented people. A designer who needs a landing page, a developer who needs a logo, a musician who needs a mix. Everyone has something valuable to offer, but money is the only accepted key, so nothing moves.

So we built worXwap, a marketplace where freelancers trade skills instead of cash. You post what you can do, find someone whose skill you need, and swap.

Three things we learned while building it:

1. Trust breaks without a structure, so we made the terms a card.
Early on we realised that "I will do X, you do Y" in a chat thread is a recipe for misunderstandings. Now every swap starts with a Condition Card: deliverables, deadline, and number of revisions, agreed before anyone starts. And with Fair Swap, the deliverables stay locked until both sides have delivered. Nobody gets left empty handed.

2. The catalogue surprised us.
There are 169 skill categories listed so far, and 63 of them, about 37%, are AI related skills. We did not plan that ratio. It seems like a snapshot of where freelance work is heading, and it made us curious what other builders are seeing.

3. Language was the wall we underestimated.
A global skill exchange only works if people can actually talk. Chat messages are translated across 32 languages, calls come with near real time interpretation and live captions, and there is an AI Voice feature that speaks in your own voice, in the other person's language. It is always labelled as AI Voice, because nobody should ever wonder whether they are hearing a real voice or a generated one.

The same chat screen in English, Japanese, and Spanish. The app UI ships in 11 languages, and chat translates across 32.

We also adapted the layout for foldable phones like the iPhone Duo, so on a wide screen the chat and your partner's profile sit side by side.

An honest note to finish: we are a tiny team and the app is still almost completely unknown. Some days we post about it and hear nothing back, which is exactly as humbling as it sounds. We keep going because the idea feels right for where things are heading: money does not have to be the only way people exchange value.

It is free to start, with 3 swap credits included. There are also paid plans, Premium at $9.99 a month and Premium Plus at $19.99 a month, for people who swap a lot. Demo accounts are available if any writer or reviewer wants to try the full swap flow.

So here is my question for you: if you could trade one of your skills instead of paying cash, what would you offer first, and what would you want in return?
