AI Video Tools Don't Know What Your App Looks Like So Demo the Real UI

帖子

A founder on r/SaaS said every AI video tool gave him "generic junk because they have no idea what my actual app looks like."

What works: 30 seconds of your real UI, one task, captions on screen, each shot held until you can read it aloud.

AI Video Tools Don't Know What Your App Looks Like. Demo the Real UI.

You ship on Friday. The launch post is written, and the only thing missing is a video. So you paste your app description into an AI video tool and get back someone smiling at a laptop in a sunny kitchen, next to a dashboard you never built.

The tool isn't broken. It has just never seen your product.

A founder building a healthtech app put it plainly on Reddit: "Every AI video tool gave me generic junk because they have no idea what my actual app looks like." (https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1utkvp0/how_do_you_all_demo_your_saas_i_gave_up_on_making/) He ended up building an interactive demo with Claude Code on top of his real components.

Software sells on specific screens: the report filling in, the empty inbox, the button that replaces twenty minutes of copy-paste. If a model invents those screens, the video is about some other product. And the first thing a new signup finds out is that the video wasn't true.

Here's the structure I'd use for a 30-second demo.

1. First 3 seconds: the result or the pain

Skip the logo animation. Open on the thing your app produces, or the mess before it: 14 tabs, a 2,000-row spreadsheet. One line of text on top that makes sense with the sound off.

2. One task, start to finish

The one people would pay for. No "it also does..." montage at the end. If you can't pick one, the problem is positioning, not editing.

3. Hold every screen long enough

A YC team posted their launch video on r/SaaS for feedback. Top comment: "Really good, but almost too fast to read." Another viewer said he remembered the product name and "email", "but nothing in between", because his eyes were hunting text in different colours, sizes and fonts. (https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1tjpyjn/rate_the_launch_video/)

You know your UI, so every cut feels slow to you. Simple check: read each caption aloud at a calm pace while it plays. If the shot changes before you finish, hold it longer.

4. Captions in the video, one style

X and LinkedIn autoplay muted. One font, one size, one colour, one position. One short line per caption. Never over the part of the UI you're showing.

5. One closing sentence

One action, one URL, on screen for at least two seconds.

Six shots, about five seconds each. That's what "slow enough to follow" actually looks like.

Making it from the real thing

  • Seed realistic demo data. No lorem ipsum, no real customers.
  • Fresh browser profile, notifications off, zoom at 125–150% so it reads on a phone.
  • Write five bullet points first and record in short chunks. That was the most common advice in a thread from someone who lost an afternoon to a "20-minute" demo.
  • Auto-zoom recorders (Screen Studio, Tella, Recordly) handle most of the "can't see the click" problem. Or go screenshots plus Remotion: when the UI changes, swap the screenshot and re-render.

Rule: every pixel of UI in the video is something a new user will actually see.

Per platform

  • X: muted, 20–45s, pin it on launch day.
  • LinkedIn: muted, square or vertical, post from your own profile if you sell B2B.
  • YouTube Shorts: 9:16, title it like a search ("How to chase late invoices automatically"), not your brand.
  • TikTok: vertical, sound on, how-to over polish. One person who's run a lot of SaaS experiments there says tutorial videos get fewer views but, in his experience, "10x more conversions".

Where we fit

I run AutoWhisper, and this is the step it does. Give it your website URL and it captures your real pages and makes a product demo from them, with the text on your screens kept exactly as it is. If the important part is behind a login, upload screenshots instead. A full video is 52 credits and new accounts get 65 free.
