Shan Shen Bu (闪身步, "flash step") is the sideways dodge from a 1990s Beijing Dance Academy folk dance tutorial that turned into a meme again in 2026. A few AI tools now put your photo (or your cat) into it. I built one of them, so I will say which one, and I will keep the comparison to things I could read on each site on 2026-11-07. Prices change, so check before you pay.
What I compared
One photo in, a short flash-step video out. I left out general AI video apps where you write the prompt yourself, because the result depends on your prompt more than on the tool.
The tools
1. Shan Shen Bu AI Dance (shanshenbuai.com)
- Described as one photo to a flash-step short of about 13 to 15 seconds in 9:16, for people or pets.
- Price: "from $8.88", a one-time purchase. The site says it is never free.
- Good for: a single, fixed-length clip.
- Limit: I found one length and one aspect ratio on the page.
2. MakeViral (makeviral.ai)
- A large catalogue of AI trend templates (it lists hundreds), with a Shan Shen Bu Dance template and a topic filter for pets.
- Price: credits. Its FAQ says one-time packs start at $9.99 for 100 credits, and each trend shows its own credit cost.
- Good for: people who want to try many trends from one account.
- Limit: you buy credits first, so a single dance costs a pack, not a single video.
3. MakeMeme (makememe.video)
- Also a catalogue of trends. Its Shan Shen Bu AI Dance page lists a 7-second video "from $3.99".
- Price: per video, shown on each trend page, with credit packs and plans.
- Good for: the lowest starting price I found.
- Limit: 7 seconds, one fixed length listed.
4. Shanshenbu Dance (shanshenbudance.com), the one I built
- One photo of a standing person (adults who agreed), or a cat or dog on a separate page. It uses ByteDance Seedance 2.0 with fixed templates, so there is no prompt.
- Length and format: 5, 10 or 15 seconds, 480p or 720p, vertical or wide.
- Price: a 5-second 480p video is $4.99, a 10-second 720p video is $5.99. Credit packs start at $6.99 for 50 credits. No free tier, no watermark, no sign-up for one video.
- Sound: a drum and gong beat made for your video, or no sound. The trend's own sound is not included, so add it in TikTok when you post.
- Limit: it only does this dance and its sister effects, not a large catalogue. Try the Shan Shen Bu dance AI generator if you want the length choice.
5. Film it yourself
Free and the only version that is truly yours, but the lunges are fast. Chinese hospitals reported young people hurt trying it. Warm up and go slowly.
Quick table
| Tool | Starting price I saw | Length |
|---|---|---|
| shanshenbuai.com | from $8.88 | about 13-15 s |
| makeviral.ai | packs from $9.99 / 100 credits | per trend page |
| makememe.video | from $3.99 | 7 s |
| shanshenbudance.com | $4.99 (5 s, 480p) | 5, 10 or 15 s |
| Film it yourself | free | any |
How I would choose
- Lowest price: look at the per-video price on the trend page, not the headline number. Some tools sell packs, some sell single videos.
- Length: pick a tool with the length you need. A 7-second clip is short for a TikTok that also needs a setup.
- Pets: check the pet version exists before you pay.
- Refunds: ask what happens if the video comes out broken.
If you have tried others, tell me in the comments and I will update the list.
