Building CivicIQ: Our Top 100 Journey in Google Cloud GenAI Academy APAC

WE MADE IT TO THE TOP 100! 🚀
Out of 1,500+ teams, our team was selected among the Top 100 in the Google Cloud Gen AI Academy APAC Edition - Cohort 2 Hackathon.

Interestingly, our final submission was due just a day before my university semester exams began. It was an intensely rewarding experience that strengthened my time management, resilience, and confidence while reinforcing how much I enjoy building in fast-paced environments.

🌟 A Journey Full of Firsts

  1. First Time in a Team 👥
I usually build solo (like my project PitchPerfect), but collaborating on CivicIQ taught me that working with a team is the absolute best way to learn new things quickly.

  2. Stepping Up in UI/UX 🎨
As the main designer, I focused on creating an intuitive interface for our smart governance concept, diving deep into user-centered thinking to make complex workflows accessible.

  3. Exploring the Backend ⚙️
While UI/UX and frontend are where I'm most comfortable, this hackathon gave me my first real exposure to backend development. I learned how APIs were integrated using Groq, explored the overall project structure, and saw how frontend and backend work together to bring an AI application to life. It was a small step, but one that broadened my perspective and made me excited to learn more.

  4. Finding My Voice 🎙️
I even recorded the voice-over for our project demo video, pushing me way out of my comfort zone. Growth happens the exact moment you decide to try something you think you aren't ready for—even in the middle of exam season!
