I’ve just launched LingoHuddle, a free pilot for people who want to practice languages through real conversations rather than classroom exercises.
The problem
Language exchange often breaks down because it is hard to know who is genuinely online, what they speak, and whether a call invitation was actually accepted.
What it does
- Real online availability and language badges
- Partner discovery and friend requests
- Private messaging with clear sender and recipient styling
- Explicit audio and video call invitations
- Moderated public rooms, blocking, and reporting
- Practice streaks and progress badges
- Interfaces in English, Arabic, French, Spanish, and German
The pilot is free and adults-only (18+).
Stack
React, TypeScript, DaisyUI, Firebase Authentication and Hosting, an AWS serverless backend, and Jitsi for calls.
I’d appreciate honest feedback on the onboarding, language matching, and call-invitation flow.

Nice build — real-time matching plus calls is a hard combo to get right.
One small thing I noticed on the live site: a Google API key shows up in the public page code. Even when the key is meant for the browser, it is worth locking it to your own domains (and the APIs you actually use) in Google Cloud, so someone else cannot copy it and burn through your quota. Takes a few minutes in the key restrictions screen.
