what's next in software engineering?

Hi Developers,

This is my first post on this platform and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and perspectives. I have been working as a software engineer for about two years now and I wanted to share my experience in the job. Since I started out in 2024 as a backend developer and chatGPT was already pretty good at solving Coding problems and optimizing codes, my job was pretty easy and there wasn't a steep learning curve I had anticipated. I've heard from my seniors about how many stack overflow threads and documentations they had to read through and understand to implement a simple functionality. For me and people that started software development with me ,It was never the case, we just had to prompt AI and ask it to explain what it thinks and why it is the right solution and if it feels good enough ask it to implement it. Since my job has gotten this easy, the satisfaction I get after implementing every feature ,merging every line of code has started to fade as AI progresses in light speed.

Here are a few questions to the Developers out there I'd love to hear your thoughts:

Have you felt less content in your job as AI handles more of your work?

If you’ve experienced this, how do you maintain a sense of purpose and personal value in your work?

For someone early in their engineering career, where should I focus my energy next? Does deep diving into DSA and classic system design still make sense, should I focus on LLM architecture and AI engineering, or should I just embrace "vibe coding" and ship products like many people are doing right now?
