How ArabicWorksheet.com Was Born — A Personal Story

When I moved to Saudi Arabia, I knew I was in for a cultural shift. The hospitality, the food, the vibe, I loved every bit of it. But there was one thing that kept pulling me back every single day: the language.

You don’t really feel the gap until you’re out shopping, trying to direct your Uber driver, or attending your kid’s parent teacher meeting… and you realize:

** “I live here… but I can’t truly connect.” **

Arabic Isn’t One Language, atleast not any more.. and that’s where it gets tricky

Like most expats, I started by signing up for apps, watching YouTube videos, and going through online courses.

But here’s the problem: nearly all of them teach Formal Bookish Arabic, the one you see in books, official documents, or in news.

Now don’t get me wrong, Formal Arabic is important. But it’s not how people speak in daily life.

Thankfully, I had a hidden advantage: my wife is an Arabic teacher, and that made a huge difference. (Alhamdulillah!)

But for most people who don’t have a personal Arabic tutor at home, it’s hard. You learn textbook Arabic, only to realize you can’t even order food or understand a street sign.

In Saudi Arabia, the dialect is completely different. Even basic greetings or numbers sound nothing like the textbook version.

*For example: *

English Formal Arabic Saudi Arabic
How are you? Kayfa haluka? Shlonak?
Good morning Sabah al-khayr Sabah al-nur
Water Ma Moyyah

And that’s when it hit me — no matter how many resources you follow, if you’re not learning what people actually say, you’ll always feel stuck.

From Personal Pain to Purpose

I have been lucky enough that my wife is already an Arabic teacher which helped me most. She used to spend 2–3 weeks creating worksheets, exercises, and level-specific content for her students, all manually.

Seeing how much effort went into it, and how much her students benefited from customized, practical Arabic, I thought:

“What if we could automate this? What if every expat or parent could generate their own learning content based on their level and daily needs?”

And that’s how ArabicWorksheet.com was born.
