Automation 10/30+: Put an AI agent inside GitLab Issues

In GitLab, labels are the columns. So labels are what this one listens to.

What it does

  • Add your "analyze" label to an issue → the AI posts a repo-grounded breakdown in the issue
  • Comment back → it replies in the discussion and refines what's being built
  • Move to your "build" label → it opens a merge-request-ready pull request
  • A token-verified relay routes issue and note events, so both new issues and new comments wake it

What it does not do

It never changes labels, never closes issues, never merges.

Honest note: beta — built and smoke-tested, not yet run against a live self-managed instance.

Setup

clone → ./setup.sh → pick GitLab Issues → answer a few questions
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

~5 minutes. No server, no database, free.

Get it

The recipe is open source: github.com/akshaypatel-ai/ai-automations

This is one of 30+ automations in the series — the full write-up lives on my site.
