Google built AI Edge Gallery to show what on-device AI can do. Its own README calls it an "experimental Beta release." Off Grid AI Mobile (OGAM) is the app you keep. It runs the open models you choose, makes images, answers from your files with sources, and syncs with your computer.

Both run offline. OGAM is the one built for everyday use.

Checked 29 October 2026 against AI Edge Gallery's GitHub README (1.0.22) and store listings, and Off Grid AI's release notes. "Not listed" means the feature is not on Google's pages for the app.

The models you already want

AI Edge Gallery runs models converted to Google's LiteRT format. That's mostly the Gemma family and the LiteRT Community collection on Hugging Face.

OGAM runs GGUF, the format most open models are published in on day one. Qwen 3.5, Llama, Gemma and Phi download inside the app. When a new open model drops, a GGUF build usually arrives within days.

The app shows which models fit your phone before you download. An iPhone 15 Pro or an 8GB Android flagship runs Qwen 3.5 4B well. Phones with 4GB of RAM run Qwen 3.5 0.8B.

Your phone makes images

Type what you want to see. OGAM writes a fuller prompt, then Stable Diffusion draws it on the phone. No server sees the prompt or the picture.

AI Edge Gallery's README lists chat, image questions, audio transcription, a prompt lab, agent skills and benchmarks. Image generation is not on the list.

Your files, answered with sources

Add a PDF, a lease or your class notes to a Project. Ask a question in plain words. OGAM answers and cites the passage it used, so you can check it in seconds.

The file stays on your phone the whole time. Document questions are not listed for AI Edge Gallery.

Built to be used every day

Google built AI Edge Gallery as a showcase for its on-device models. OGAM is built as your daily AI app. It shipped 8 mobile releases in October 2026, and stable builds ship to the App Store and Google Play.

Your chats, Projects and downloaded models stay on the phone between updates.

Your computer too

AI Edge Gallery's README offers a macOS preview build. OGAM's companion, Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD), runs on Mac, Windows and Linux. With Pro, Sync carries your chats and Projects between phone and computer over your own network.

Away from your desk, OGAM can reach the bigger model on your computer over your home network or VPN.

Switch in five minutes

  1. Install OGAM from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the model library and download a model that fits your phone.
  3. Ask the question you last asked in AI Edge Gallery.
  4. Ask for an image, then add a file to a Project and ask about it.

No account at any step.

What Pro adds

Pro is optional. It adds a hands-free voice mode with Kokoro, drafts you approve before anything is sent, and Sync across up to 5 devices. On 29 October 2026 it costs $79.99 once, a limited-time price down from $119, or $7.99 a month. See Pro.

The free app stays free. Chat, images, vision, voice input and Projects never need Pro.
