Private LLM is a polished Apple-only app that costs $4.99 on the US App Store. Off Grid AI is free, open source, and runs on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows and Linux. It also makes images on your device and answers from your own files with sources.

You keep the $4.99 and get more devices.

Free on every device

Private LLM is a one-time $4.99 purchase on the US App Store, with Family Sharing. Prices differ by country.

Off Grid AI Mobile (OGAM) and Off Grid AI Desktop (OGAD) are free. No trial and no account. Chat, images, vision, voice input and Projects never need Pro.

Read the code yourself

Private LLM's site promises no tracking and no logs. It does not say the app is open source.

Off Grid AI's code is public. OGAM is MIT licensed, with 3,300 stars on GitHub. OGAD is AGPL-3.0. You or anyone you trust can check exactly what happens to a prompt.

The phone in your pocket, whatever it is

Private LLM runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision. If your phone is a Pixel or a Galaxy, or your work laptop runs Windows, it can't come with you.

OGAM runs on iPhone 12 and newer and on Android phones with 4GB of RAM. OGAD runs on Apple silicon Macs, Windows and Linux.

Your device makes images

Ask for an image on your phone. OGAM writes a fuller prompt, then Stable Diffusion draws it on the device. On a computer, OGAD runs image models such as RealVisXL V5.0 Lightning on your GPU. A 1024 by 1024 picture takes 6 steps with that model.

Image generation is not listed on Private LLM's site.

Your files, answered with sources

Add a PDF, a lease or your notes to a Project. Ask a question in plain words. Off Grid AI answers and cites the passage it used, so you can check the claim in seconds.

The file stays on your device. Projects work on phone and computer.

Run the open models you want

Off Grid AI runs GGUF, the format most open models ship in on day one. Qwen 3.5, Llama, Gemma and Phi download inside the app. The app shows which models fit your device before you download.

On an iPhone 15 Pro, Qwen 3.5 4B is the sweet spot for quality. On a Mac with plenty of memory, larger models like Qwen 3.5 9B answer with sources cited.

One assistant across devices

With Pro, Sync carries your chats and Projects between phone and computer over your own network. Away from your desk, OGAM can reach the bigger model on your computer over your home network or VPN.

Switch in five minutes

  1. Install OGAM from the App Store or Google Play. On your computer, download OGAD.
  2. Open the model library and download a model that fits.
  3. Ask the question you last asked in Private LLM.
  4. Ask for an image, then add a file to a Project and ask about it.

No account at any step.

What Pro adds

Pro is optional. It adds a hands-free voice mode on the phone, searchable memory and meetings on the computer, actions you approve and Sync across up to 5 devices. On 29 October 2026 it costs $79.99 once, a limited-time price down from $119, or $7.99 a month. See Pro.
