From "Here's Your Bullets" to "Here's Your Entire Design" — DocsBolt v2
A few months ago I posted here about a tool I built called DocsBolt.
The idea was simple — paste your notes, get a PPT in seconds.
The response was kind. But the feedback was honest:
"The content is good but the slides all look the same."
That one comment lived in my head for weeks.
So I rebuilt the core. Completely.
What Was Wrong With v1
In the first version, DocsBolt did one thing well — it structured your content into slides.
But every presentation looked basically identical.
- Same layout on every slide
- Neutral grey/white backgrounds
- Default fonts
- No visual personality
It felt like AI-generated content stuffed into a boring container.
The problem wasn't the AI. It was that the design was hardcoded by me, not decided by intelligence.
What v2 Does Differently
1. AI Now Designs Everything From Scratch
When you don't pick a template, the AI doesn't just write your content.
It becomes your designer.
It reads your topic and decides:
- 🎨 Background color and style — dark moody tones for serious topics, bright clean palettes for creative ones
- ✦ Font pairing — a strong display font for headings, a clean readable font for body
- 📐 Layout per slide — not every slide gets bullets. Some get three cards. Some get a flowchart. Some get a tree structure. Some get a big bold quote.
- 👁️ Color contrast — text is always readable. Always.
A presentation about Climate Change looks nothing like a presentation about a Startup Pitch.
The AI understands context, not just content.
2. "Let Us Design It" Mode
This is the feature I'm most proud of.
On the template selection screen, instead of choosing one of our templates — you can now click "Leave it to us."
The AI gets full creative control.
It runs two intelligent passes:
Pass 1 — Design Config
What colors fit this topic emotionally? What fonts carry the right mood? Dark or light? Geometric or clean?
Pass 2 — Slide Architecture
What layout should each slide use? Where does a flowchart make more sense than bullets? Where does a comparison card work better than a paragraph?
No manual rules. No hardcoded logic. Pure AI design judgment.
3. Researchers — This One's For You
One of the most requested features since v1:
Upload your research paper → Get a full presentation.
Drop a PDF of your research paper into DocsBolt.
The AI reads it, extracts the key findings, methodology, results, and conclusions — and builds a complete academic presentation automatically.
No more spending Sunday afternoons converting your 40-page paper into slides.
This works especially well for:
- IEEE / ACM paper presentations
- Thesis defense slides
- Conference presentations
- Literature review summaries
4. Complete UI Redesign
v1 was functional. v2 is clean.
Dark mode first. Minimal interface. Nothing in the way between you and your output.
The design philosophy was simple — the tool should disappear. Only your content should exist.
The Insight That Changed Everything
When I was building v1, I thought people wanted more features.
More templates. More customization. More controls.
I was wrong.
What people actually want is less decisions.
The cognitive load of choosing a template, picking colors, adjusting fonts — that IS the friction. That's where creativity dies.
Not when you run out of ideas. But when you have to fight a text box.
DocsBolt v2 is built on one belief:
You bring the Signal. We handle the Container.

Honest Ask
If you try it — tell me what broke.
I'm one person building this. Feedback from this community shaped v2. It'll shape v3 too.
