The worst thing a mentor can do
is hand you the answer.
It feels helpful. It isn't.
You solved their problem once.
You taught them nothing they can repeat.
A good mentor does something slower.
They ask the question that gets you unstuck.
They point at the door.
They let you turn the handle.
I don't measure my mentoring
by how many problems I solved.
I measure it by how many people
stopped needing me.
That's the whole job:
to make yourself unnecessary,
one person at a time.
