Why Self-Paced AI Training Fails Your Engineering Team

2. Custom examples from your environment
Show them Copilot improving your pull request templates. Demonstrate Claude Code navigating your project structure. The closer the training is to their actual work, the faster the transfer.
3. Short and dense, not long and broad
A half-day intensive beats a 6-module asynchronous course. Attention is finite. One focused session with practice time outperforms spread-out passive watching.
4. Measurement before and after
If you don't have a utilization baseline before training, you can't demonstrate ROI after. Track weekly active users, acceptance rates, and time-to-review metrics before and after any training program.
The ROI Question You'll Eventually Have to Answer
Every L&D leader who rolls out AI coding tools will eventually face the same question from leadership: "We've been paying for these licenses for a year — are they working?"
If you can't answer with data, that's a problem.
