Highlight from Dr. Werner Keynote

What a brilliant re:Invent it has been so far with so many AWSome announcements for all the builders to innovate and move at pace. I am Yogesh Sharma, AWS Community Builder and here highlighting important announcements from highly anticipated keynote of iconic AWS VP & CTO Dr. Werner Vogels.

Let’s go see highlights of the keynote:

AWS CloudShell
AWS CloudShell provides access to AWS resources from a convenient browser-based command line interface. Cloudshell is fully customizable, based on Amazon Linux 2, managed by AWS, cost-free and it even provides 1GB of persistent storage to retain files, scripts and other commonly used resources.

Every shell environment that you run with CloudShell has the AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) (v2) installed and configured so you can run aws commands.
With the goal of making the process of getting to an AWS-enabled shell prompt simple and secure, just click on Cloudshell icon.
AWS CloudShell is available now and you can start using it today.

AWS Fault Injection Simulator
AWS Fault Injection Simulator signifies Chaos Engineering for everyone. Dr. Vogels often reminds us that “Everything fails, all the time.” AWS Fault Injection Simulator (FIS) enables Customers to conduct chaos engineering in a controlled manner, measure impact, monitor and learn from it. These experiments result in detailed reports and findings which can be used to compare and contrast to baseline measurements to help make decisions on how best to optimize various operations.

This process of chaos engineering was made popular by Netflix and their use of Chaos Monkey. FIS gives organizations the power to identify faults in their environment before they are encountered during a production outage. (Coming in 2021)

Amazon Managed Service for Grafana and Prometheus
As we know, the importance of observability in complex software systems has been increasing rapidly.
Amazon Managed Service for Grafana (AMG), a fully managed service that makes it easy to create on-demand, scalable, and secure Grafana workspaces to visualize and analyze your data from multiple sources.
Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus (AMP) is fully-managed service, compatible with Prometheus. It supports the same metrics, the same PromQL queries, and can also make use of the Prometheus exporters.

Observability is an essential aspect of running cloud infrastructure at scale. Organizations need to know that resources health status and performance. And both of these services will exactly serve the same purpose. These services offer the ability to analyze, monitor, produce alarms based on metrics, trace data across multiple sources and visualize interactive data.

AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry
AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry is an AWS-supported, production-grade, secure distribution of the OpenTelemetry project. This service provides open-source APIs, agents and libraries to collect metrics and traces for the monitoring of applications.
