Every week we speak with students from different departments to understand what makes learning difficult for them
This week we had conversations with two Science Laboratory Technology students and both conversations gave us
something important to think about
The first student mentioned Logic Gates, Calculus and Chemistry as some of the topics that can become difficult
What stood out was not only the difficulty of the subjects
It was the amount of formulas
She explained that different formulas can look very similar and that makes them difficult to remember
Her way of dealing with it was mostly reading and cramming
She would repeat the formulas and even talk about them with friends
It helped her understand them to some extent
But there was another problem
After too much stress or after an examination, much of what she had memorized would disappear
That conversation made us think about the difference between remembering something and actually understanding it
The second Science Laboratory Technology student gave us another perspective
She mentioned Chemistry and Physics as difficult areas and pointed mainly to the way they were taught
When we asked what would make calculations easier to understand, her answer was simple
Step by step explanations
She also told us that sometimes she relies on friends to explain things when she does not fully understand what was taught
She understands some of it but still wants to understand more

But both conversations pointed us toward the same bigger question
Are students really struggling because the subjects are too difficult
Or are they struggling because the way the information is presented does not always match how they understand things
This is one of the reasons we continue talking to students before building the full BAINT product
We do not want to assume what students need
We want to hear it directly from them
Every conversation gives us another piece of the picture
Sometimes the problem is too many formulas
Sometimes it is the teaching style
Sometimes students need a concept broken down step by step
Sometimes they understand enough to pass but not enough to remember what they learned later
For us, this is where the real work begins
BAINT is still in the demo phase
We are showing it to students and teachers
We are collecting feedback
We are interviewing students from different departments
And we are using those conversations to decide what should improve next
The goal is not to make students memorize more
The goal is to help them understand better
Because learning should not end when the examination ends
