Laptop servers are pretty good way to reuse your old laptops, tho! (I wanted to put a joke about 3Rs but can't find anyone so welp, here you go)
The truth, although you can still keep the server on even if the lid is closed, it is simply configuring Linux well so that it does not suspend when the lid is closed.
I have several computers that the government provides for students with damaged screens and I use them as a server.
