How I turn a testimonial dump into a case study one-pager

Client praise in Slack threads, email forwards, and five-star screenshots is not a case study. It is raw material that sits unused until a proposal deadline.

Here is the workflow I use when someone dumps testimonials, quotes, and outcomes and wants a one-page case study back in about a day.

What "good enough" looks like

  • One page a prospect can skim in under a minute
  • Clear before → after, not just compliments
  • Named result (metric, timeline, or concrete change) when the dump supports it
  • Attributable quotes with permission notes — never invented praise
  • Soft CTA that matches how you actually sell (call, proposal, shop link)

Intake checklist

  1. The raw dump (emails, Slack exports, review screenshots, Loom transcripts, survey replies)
  2. Which client / project this is about (and what you can name publicly)
  3. Permission status for quotes and logos (yes / ask / anonymize)
  4. Any numbers you are allowed to share (time saved, revenue lift, error rate, turnaround)
  5. The audience for the one-pager (cold prospect, warm lead, partner intro)

The pass order that saves time

  1. Inventory quotes — list every usable line once; drop vague "great work!" fluff unless it pairs with a result.
  2. Pull the story spine — problem → what you did → outcome. One spine per page.
  3. Pick 2–4 proof quotes — short, specific, attributable; flag anything that needs anonymizing.
  4. Add one concrete result — only if the dump supports it; otherwise say "outcome reported qualitatively" and move on.
  5. Write the one-pager sections — context, approach, result, quote block, CTA.
  6. Permission pass — mark each quote as cleared / pending / anonymized.
  7. Cut for skim — kill adjectives; keep nouns and numbers.

One-pager sections that work

Section What goes here
Client / context Who + situation in one sentence (or anonymized industry)
Problem What was broken or stuck before
Approach What you actually did (3 bullets max)
Result Metric or concrete change or honest qualitative outcome
Quotes 2–4 short lines with attribution
Permission Cleared / pending / anonymized flags
CTA How to start a similar project

Common traps

  • Turning five "amazing!" lines into a page with no problem or result
  • Naming a client or using a logo without clear permission
  • Inventing metrics the dump never contained
  • Writing a brochure instead of a skimable one-pager
  • Mixing three unrelated projects into one muddled story

Soft handoff

When the page is done, send:

  • The case study one-pager (doc or PDF-ready)
  • A short list of quotes still pending permission
  • One suggested use (proposal appendix, LinkedIn, sales email)

That is the whole job. No agency creative deck required.
