My worst distraction is my cravings, now that I think about it. Each time I get up from my desk it's for a snack, so I keep them close by.
But I believe that the best way to stay focused is to make your place of work approachable, to be an area that you enjoy staying and inspires you to keep working. I like working/studying/learning with a window behind my screen so I occassionaly steal glances of the sky, the people, the trees, the building. I customise my code editor and my desktop so it doesn't become very dull to look at.
Some people may found this a greater distraction, but it is a case by case situation. Unfortunately, there are also other reasons why these can be hard to achieve like working in the office and/or not having a designated desk, but there can be other ways to personalise a little your workspace.
Its not easy, especially as a freelancer working from home, and having a family.
Something I found is good in some cases for me, playing some jazz music... but if I do it every day it becomes a distraction or I start getting sick of it lol.
If I can depending on what it is, I'll start as early as I can when it's nice and quiet.
when i am trying to focus on something and my mind get distracted i use the finger strike method that sound of finger striking brings me back to the place where I lose my focus
