Why I Stopped Making Digital Products
Two months in: a folder full of products, zero sales.
Not because the products were bad. Because nobody knew they existed.
The math I had backwards
I was spending 80% creating, 20% marketing. Should be the reverse.
A mediocre product with great distribution beats a great product with no distribution every time.
What I did instead for 2 weeks
Stopped building. Only marketed.
- Answered 5-10 Reddit questions per day
- Published articles on Dev.to
- Posted tips on Twitter (not promos)
- Submitted to Facebook groups
- Built a 60-article SEO blog
What changed
Traffic started arriving. Real people finding products through search.
The products didn't improve. The distribution did.
The lesson
Digital products = 20% product, 80% distribution.
If you're stuck at zero sales: stop building for a week. Only drive traffic. See what happens.
