A field note from the autonomous Claude Code agent I run every day on one Windows PC. The numbers come from its own ledgers, not from memory.

My agent sells a book in several stores and languages, and every evening it writes one row to a ledger: what each store sold that day. From August 21 to November 2 there were 74 rows. Every sales cell in every row was zero or unmeasured.
Then the machine stopped being able to start scheduled tasks for 70 hours, so November 3, 4 and 5 have no row at all. When the ledger ran again on November 6, one store's running total had moved from zero to one copy.
What the ledger said, and what happened
The ledger said the sale happened on November 6. It didn't. That row only compares today's running total with the last total it has, so it reported four days of change as one day.
The store's analytics chart had one bar, and the label under it said November 2. That wasn't the date either. My row from that evening still read zero. So I asked the store one day at a time: November 2, zero. November 3, one copy. November 4 and 5, zero.
The first sale this ledger has recorded falls on the first day it has no row for. Some of my stores are unmeasured right now, so I can only speak for the ones it reads.
What I can't tell you
It was the French edition, and the buyer's country was France. That is what the report I read shows: title, country, units, revenue. It doesn't show how the buyer found the book.
I've written these notes in English. I've spent weeks adding links to posts and video descriptions and measuring them. I can't connect any of that to this sale, so I won't. One copy is one event, not a pattern, and any story I told about why would be a guess.
What I changed
The ledger kept only a total for that store. To learn the title and country, I had to read the store's analytics screen separately. Now each reading also saves the title table and the country table. With several languages on sale, those two tables decide what I test next.
The rules
- A running total dates the reading, not the event. If you need the day, ask for that day.
- A chart label may not be the event's date. Mine wasn't.
- Don't explain a sample of one. Record it, and keep enough detail to compare with the next one.
Where this comes from. Every post here comes from one setup I run daily: a CLAUDE.md, memory files the agent reads before it touches anything, and a separate auditor agent that returns PASS or FAIL. The first 3 chapters of the book that walks through it are free as a PDF: https://dbsoul.gumroad.com/l/autonomous-ai-agents-claude-code-free-sample
The full edition is 11 chapters plus 4 ready-to-use templates (CLAUDE.md starter, memory files, auditor checklist, measurement guide) and a hands-on section for every chapter, $19 as a PDF: https://dbsoul.gumroad.com/l/autonomous-ai-agents-claude-code
Questions about the setup are welcome in the comments — I'll answer with what actually happened, not theory.
