You asked, we listened! ๐ฆฃ
You can now share DEV articles to Mastodon in addition to other social networks directly from the article page.
Here's how to do it:
- Open the article you'd like to share to social.
- Navigate to the ellipsis icon on the left sidebar (aka the three dot menu, aka the meatball menu) and select it.
- Select "Share to Mastodon"
- This will open the app toot.kytta.dev, which will populate your DEV post link and ask you to input the instance to which you'd like to share.
Select TOOT! and you're good to go! ๐
PS โ if there are Mastodon-related features you'd like to see implemented, we welcome you to open a discussion in our public repo. Yay Open Source!
Big thanks to @jaw6 for building this feature and to @ridhwana & @fdocr for reviewing! Thanks as well to Nikita Karamov for creating the cross-instance share page we've utilized here.

Folks may not know that there's a bit of a story behind Mastodon's choice of the word "TOOT":
Love this. As a US American "toot" is a little silly when it hits my ear, but I think it's the perfect amount of silliness. What are we doing but tooting our opinions into the void?๐ฆฃ๐จ
"Toot" is used to mean fart in the UK, but rarely; it's kind of archaic. As an aside, a much more popular word for it over here is "trump".
Lets gooooo! Nice work! See you over on ๐
Not gonna lie, without knowing what this was, my first thought was "Why would Mastodon care about what I post on dev?" Lol ๐คฃ
That is all. Good article. Carry on lol

Off to test this out.
I don't have the option to share the articles to Mastodon.
I think it's cut off somehow :(
And I'm on Windows 11 and my browser is Google Chrome if that makes any difference :)
Nice!
Curious how long this took? Probably not long.
Do you think you could spend 10 minutes to turn the
manifest.json
back on for the site so that it's installable as a PWA again?
