hello everyone, namaste🙏
Hello! 🙏🙏
Brains, brains, BRAINS!!!
Anyone want to mentor a little idiot? Cause I'd be a mentee in a heart beat. Low-commitment, point and I go just like a truffle pig. Still gaining my legs, but open to any assistance in gaining ground on this wild west of a web.
Could be half-way around the world. Could be whole way, even. If you're a beginner like me, but even half-a-step ahead I'd never know. Just lay some breadcrumbs and give me something to figure out.
Or we could both be idiots together! Learn new things by process of blund(ering)-(e)limination. Get really good at hitting walls, getting up, and doing it all over again.
Let me know, cause I'm looking for a co-pilot! Let's do this thing!
hi
How you doin'? Hahahah! Yamil, you wanna pair up and make spaghetti?
Sure, why not
Tell me where and when. Something on Git? We could make a language together. Keep it simple? Guy on here was tossing the idea around. I really want to make some kind of high-level micro-language (kind of like the Toki Pona of javascript or something). Unless you've got a solid idea kicking around?
Even if it's a vague idea, we could give it a go. There's also a git-game jam coming up.
Toki Pona ❤️
I would totally be on board for this if only I had more time :/
I feel this so hard. Wouldn't that be something though? Hahaha!
<3!!!
Hello. Welcome. How are you doing?
Hey Anita~
*Big wavies! Halloween is almost here. I used to know a guy who said it was Halloween 365. I also used to know a guy who wished it was Halloween 365 (he acted in a haunted house). I wish I had some big ritual I performed, but I haven't in years. And I watch scary movies for just about every flick I turn on. So what is a girl to do =P?
How about you, sis?
Haha, loving the Halloween spirit! 🧟♂️
Also, just loving the humor throughout your messages here! Best of luck in finding a good mentor to work alongside. One group I recommend checking out is Virtual Coffee... they're an awesome, supportive group that has regular meetups.
Highly, highly recommend them!
Virtual Coffee
Thank you, thank you Michael! I figured I would save my serious points for serious times. And otherwise live life blissfully one footfall away from the edge of the cliff. Like The Fool card, only sub the little doggy for a ferret.
I've got them followed now, and I'll give a check. See you 'round the bend =D!
The Fool is considered one of the most powerful cards. Adventure, new beginnings, change...
Hey! I'll take the compliment, old chap! Hahahaha!
Thanks!
Hello
Hey, hey Sujal! How you doing? I see you like ML. You might be on a more advanced level than this, but did you know you can do some free model training with Google Colab? 'Tis pretty cool.
I looked at a handful of tutorials and liked this one the most because it's the cleanest. Check it out if you're interested: colab.research.google.com/github/t...
Hello there. Welcome!
Am right here fellow idiot eager to learn ready to hit walls
KOOL! Let's do this! I was thinking about making a silly organization - like the Professional Idiots Secret Society. Hehehehe! Maybe we can piece it together and start throwing our code-poop around like monkeys =D
As someone who has been in this industry for half a decade (which, admittedly, isn't that long either):
I still feel like an idiot, I am just better at explaining why my code is bad 😅
Welcome! I get you even thought I am a hobby coder and I been coding for a much shorter time than you. I believe we all can feel like that at times when it comes to pretty much anything though. The key is to not pay much attention to that feeling when it surfaces. Some feelings are just that, feelings. They come and they go.
Yes, definitely! And it's important to remember that making mistakes is part of the process. No dev is perfect, and we all will write code that isn't pretty
You are absolutely correct. Well said!
This is <3
Hey, don't knock it =P! I've heard a lot of folks get burnt out ~10 years. So if you're still feeling relatively good about it - you've probably got sticking power. I think some of that comes from allowing yourself to be an idiot. Cause your ego isn't on the line, so you can fail and get up with less bruises. But I might also just be ignorant about things and be dating a skater. Whutevuh!
I am more than likely butchering the bean-bits out of this but I look back to it all the time. I remember Kurosawa commenting about how he knew so little. Which is so funny, as he is one of the greatest cinematographers we've ever known. But I get it, breadth wise - what do we know? We can only know what we know, and what we know in relation to what can be known is practically nothing. So it helps me sit comfy, instead of being a fidgety baby in this crazy field that I lego-smash logic together in.
That be me
Hey! What kind of projects you trying to work on right now?
I can be the other idiot if you want 😁
Let's go my d-having-person! Like the script, by the by. I see you've studied Java. What are you interested in doing long term? I hear that Java pays the big bucks! I mean, I wouldn't know. But I know of it ;D!
I'm kicking it through a React course, don't wanna throw off your sail. But I was doing this "WebDev Bootcamp" docs thing for Hacktoberfest and thinking about creating a more general exploration of CompSci as a record/database. Also been kicking around making the PISS organization (Professional Idiots Secret Society). Maybe we setup PISS on GitHub, and start seeing what silly code we can sling around?
I would really like to do videogames in the future but I can help you with the WebDev Bootcamp if you want :)
I'm holding down the course pretty well on my end. I can say if you're interested you can join. But I think I'm ~55 hours in. Which is why it's a bit of a difficult starting point. We could also be accountabilabuddies, and keep ourselves motivated in our own independent studies. Create that organization (doesn't have to be PISS, but it was def on my mind =P!) to record our findings. Perhaps publish some tutorials and the likes. Something that's sort of amalgamous in form.
On the game dev scene, I planned on dipping my toes at some point. But not as a main course of action thing. They've got that GitHub/itch game jam coming up. I was thinking about fiddling around in the bitsy engine and making a micro-game. But I'm not entirely sure, because things are a bit up in the air. But totally going to flip to Godot at some point =)!
We could spitfire ideas off of one another or challenge ourselves to take a singular idea and make our own renditions. Help troubleshoot a bit if we get stuck? Not entirely sure. Usually I'm a bit more hands-on collaborative, but we may be in the middle of a move, and I don't want to promise a commitment I can't follow through with =)! Just let me know, we can work something out together~
oooh thanks, Im going to check on that, sorry for the late response, if you want you can add me in discord and we can talk there. #okami0280
Hey, I'd add you but I don't have one. Discord drives me bonkers. Don't worry about response time. It's irrelevant. Have you checked it out yet? It's pretty cool!
Hi!! My name is Srijan Baniyal . I recently completed the Hacktoberfest challenge. I noticed that Dev.to was offering me badges for Contribution . And community recognition.
Hello Srijan! Nice to have you here! 🥳
Awesome stuff, Srijan!
Just a quick reminder to make sure to share a post with us before the month is up if you're hoping to score those DEV Hacktoberfest badges you mentioned.

Do all these things and we'll be sure to give you the right badges. 🙌
Thanks so much for participating in this year's event. By the way, you can refer to this post for full contributor completion instructions.
Thank You
For helping me out to clear the confusion Michael
No problem at all! Hope you have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
Btw , what's forem ?? Can you explain me what is this , why is this , should I use it or not ??
Forem is the platform that we built DEV on. Technically, DEV came first and then we generalized the software so that other folks could use the same platform to build their own communities.
It's also our company name! 🙂
You can learn a bit about the software Forem here... you can also see our codebase on GitHub here.
I don't know if you have plans to start a community, but we have some documentation on how you can set up Forem here on this site... surprise: it's another Forem (like DEV), haha! But honestly, we're still a relatively new platform with a small team, so if you decide to go forward with using the software to develop your own community be prepared for an experience that isn't yet totally polished. Still, I think it's great software and if you look at DEV, it's what we're using to host our community — it's fast, secure, capable of hosting many concurrent users, and respectful of data privacy. Plus, it looks pretty slick and has some great features for fostering community, enabling moderation, and publishing articles!
All in all, the choice in whether to use Forem (as in, develop your own Forem community) is up to you, but I do think it's a capable platform and we'd love to hear your opinion on it. Also, if you're interested in exploring other Forems out there, we have this website that showcases some of the different communities folks have created.
Appreciate the question and hope you continue to enjoy DEV!
Heck yes! Sadly I missed Hacktoberfest this year as I was too busy, but I'll sure participate next year ✨
Then next year that is! Same for me as well, I mean, I only discovered Hacktoberfest in 2018 so participated that year and in 2019 and in 2020 (I believe it was) but only half my pull requests got accepted and it took such a long time until that happened that I lost that challenge. I was SO sure I made it but was mistaken. So I guess, lesson learned, do more than double the original requests just to make sure. And then I guess I have been too busy the other years after that like you, but that is okay. There will be next time! Too bad they do not give out t-shirts or stickers anymore tho, I really loved those!
Happens. You still came to know about the HacktoberFest in 2018. I came to know in 2022.
Hello! Just wanted to share my thoughts and experiences!
Let us connect and grow together!
Here is my first post!
dev.to/varungarg/whowhat-is-a-back...
Hi guys, I'm a software developer with 20+ years of experience mostly in backend and cloud computing, I've read a really cool post on this site so I thought I'll join.
Hope I can contribute.
Hi everyone, I am working as a devops engineer , but need some help and guidence to improve the coding skills and architecture implementation
Hi everyone, I am Tu and I'm a software engineer who is enthusiastic about web and cloud services. Currently, I'm diving more into system design and am very happy to be able to gain more interesting knowledge here.
I have read many posts from the Dev Community but somehow I missed this thread for a long time xD
Hope we can connect and grow together 🤟🏻
Yeah, Tu! I'm following you now. I can see you're doing such good things. Keep it up!
Woot! Thanks for chiming into the welcome thread here, Tu! It's awesome to have ya with us. 🙌
