6 months ago, I had no idea how to code. I was the non-technical founder of a football (soccer...) data startup and wanted to learn how to build web apps myself.
I've made false starts in learning web development (Javascript, Python, even CSS etc) many times over the past few years, and this time, I decided to jump in at the deep end. No more free online courses, YouTube videos or games. It was time to build.
I decided I'd build something that could help fellow entrepreneurs get off the ground, and set my sites on a website that could create logos for users based off a low-quality input. Every company needs a logo and if you don't have graphic design skills, it can be expensive, especially for someone just starting out. Not a revolutionary idea but it was a great project to get my teeth into and offered some value to the world.
I started off with Vue JS framework as it's what our front-end dev used when building my first website (numbersgame.uk) and at first, it was demoralising. The initial push through not understanding even how to run a command and the most minute details was without doubt, the hardest part. You can't get into any sort of flow and everything takes hours.
But after wrestling with every line of code, every command and every intermediary middleware, I built my website (logoai.co.uk) with a stack of Vuejs, Nodejs, AWS (DynamoDB, Lambda, Cloudfront, S3) and it's now live! I've never been more proud and I've learnt so much along the way.
I only wish I'd started earlier.
If you're thinking about learning to code, start todayβit's worth it! Check out my project at www.logoai.co.uk and let me know what you think!
