Part 2: Creating an Azure storage account and configuring basic settings for security and networking: A step by step guide.

Hey guys, lets flinch cloud muscles!!! From the part one of this article, we learned that an Azure storage is a Microsoft cloud service where you store things. Which in lay man's term is more like having a file cabinet where you can access from anywhere in the world.

Configuring simple settings in the storage account.

To configure this storage, lets make some assumptions.

Assumpton 1: The data in this storage account doesn’t require high availability or durability. A lowest cost storage solution is desired.

  • In your storage account created, in the Data management section,
  • select the Redundancy blade.
  • Select Locally-redundant storage (LRS) in the Redundancy drop-down.
  • Be sure to Save your changes.

No HA

Assumpton 2: The storage account should only accept requests from secure connections.

  • In the Settings section,
  • Select the Configuration blade.
  • Ensure Secure transfer required is Enabled.

Secure connections

Assumpton 3: Developers would like the storage account to use at least TLS version 1.2. Until the storage is needed again, disable requests to the storage account.

  • In the Settings section,
  • Select the Configuration blade.
  • Ensure the Minimal TLS version is set to Version 1.2.
  • Ensure Allow storage account key access is Disabled.
  • Be sure to Save your changes. TLS Version & key access

Assumpton 3: Ensure the storage account allows public access from all networks

  • In the Security + networking section,
  • select the Networking blade.
  • Ensure Public network access is set to Enabled from all networks.
  • Be sure to Save your changes.

Public access

So we've successfully configured basic settings in the storage account for security and networking.
