Apple has given the Mac mini a big internal upgrade with the new M6 chip, while also adding a more powerful M5 Pro option.
The design stays almost exactly the same.
It is still the small 5-inch desktop users know, but there is a lot more happening inside. The M6 is Apple’s first 2nm chip and comes with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU.
Apple says the new chip can deliver up to 40% faster CPU performance and up to four times faster AI performance than the previous generation.
Storage is also faster, while newer features such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and 2.5Gb Ethernet make the Mac mini better suited for modern workloads.
For users who need more power, the M5 Pro model goes further with up to 18 CPU cores, 20 GPU cores, and 64GB of unified memory.
It is aimed more at demanding work such as development, creative projects, and heavier AI tasks.
But there is one part of the update that may get the most attention: the price.
The M6 Mac mini starts at $899, while the M5 Pro starts at $1,699.
That is a noticeable jump from the previous M4 model, which started at $599.
Apple opened preorders on August 25, with the new Mac mini set to become available from September 22, 2026.
In short, the new Mac mini is faster, better connected, and more ready for AI.
The real question is whether those improvements make the higher price worth paying.
