Apple announced its first touch-screen MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR Display, available in 14- and 16-inch models starting at $2,899.
The release accompanies the Apple Upgrade leasing program in partnership with Klarna for monthly hardware financing.
The prices of new computers
The 14-inch model costs between $2.899 and $4.499, depending on the processor it has. On the other hand, the larger 16-inch version ranges from $3.399 to $4.799.
The new device rental program
The company also announced Apple Upgrade, a new rental program launched in July in partnership with payments platform Klarna. The program allows users to acquire select phones, watches, computers and tablets by paying a monthly fee, with 24 or 36-month contracts.
Participation in the program is subject to a financial audit. Officials note that there are no interest or late fees.
What happens in case of a missed payment?
If a monthly payment fails, Klarna retries and attempts to charge an alternative payment method. However, if payments continue to fail, the case may end up with a collection agency and affect the user's credit rating.
What else should users know?
The rental program does not include Apple's security and support service, which must be purchased separately.
