Apple's new iPad mini upgrades to the A20 Pro chip, delivering significant performance gains for CPU, GPU, and on-device AI workloads alongside an 8.5-inch OLED display, Wi-Fi 7, and IP67 durability.
Screen and design
The new iPad mini features an 8,5-inch OLED display that is twice as bright as the previous generation, reaching up to 1.200 nits, with 24% thinner bezels around the display. Apple says the price increase is partly due to the ongoing memory shortage in the market, although the base model still starts with 128GB of storage.
The device has become thinner and lighter, measuring 0,21 inches thick from 0,3 inches and weighing 0,56 pounds for the Wi-Fi model and 0,58 pounds for the cellular version. It also has IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, support for Wi-Fi 7, and a new speaker system for clearer sound and bass. The 12-megapixel front-facing camera has been moved to the long horizontal side.
Processor and performance
Inside, the tablet has been upgraded from the A17 processor to the A20 Pro. The new processor offers up to 60% faster performance, up to 2,7x faster graphics, and up to 4,5x boost in AI tasks.
Circulation and prices
Pre-orders for the new iPad mini open on Wednesday, October 28, while the market launch is scheduled for November 6. The device is available in dark gray and bright yellow.
