An Apple Account country change can affect access to purchased apps, music, videos and books because availability differs by region.
Apple recommends downloading wanted content before switching; account balance may not transfer, a new region-accepted payment method is required, and some subscriptions may need to be cancelled.
The guidance is a useful reminder that account-region settings can have consequences for digital purchases.
What to check before changing country
You'll need a payment method that's accepted in your new country. You can see the available options in Apple's support guide . If you can't add a new payment method, you might need to wait until you're in the new country or region. Then you can create a new Apple account with the new location settings.
Use your account balance before switching, as it may not transfer. Apple does not refund your balance in cash, unless required by local law. You can spend it on App Store products or Apple services. In some countries, you can also use it on products or accessories. If you can't use your balance, contact Apple Support.
To see your balance, open the App Store and tap your photo or initials. You'll find it below your name.
Also check your subscriptions. Some subscriptions can't be kept after changing countries. If a subscription prevents you from changing, Apple usually allows you to cancel it. On iPhone or iPad, you'll find your subscriptions in Settings, by tapping your name, then "Subscriptions." If you see a red message saying your subscription has expired, it's already expired.
Complete any pending transactions before changing countries. Otherwise, you may lose access to some subscriptions, pre-orders, Season Passes, and movie rentals. You can cancel a pre-order from the App Store, in the pre-orders section under subscriptions.
If you're in a Family Sharing group, you may need to leave before changing countries. Apple allows you to transfer digital purchases between accounts, but restrictions apply.
How do you change your account country?
On your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Vision Pro, open Settings and tap your name. Then go to Media & Purchases > Country/Region. Select the new country, agree to the terms, and fill in your payment method and billing address.
On a Mac, you can change your country from your account settings in the Apple Music or Apple TV app. On a Windows computer, open your account view and choose to change your country or region. You can also change your country or region at account.apple.com , under Personal Information, then Country/Region.
After the change, some features may not be available in the new region. The revamped Siri with AI will not be available to customers in Europe due to an ongoing legal dispute with the EU. Apple Intelligence has been approved for release in China. To check which features are available in each country, you can consult the Apple Feature Map.
