Google has announced a personal intelligence upgrade for Gemini in vehicles, enabling the assistant to retrieve context from Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, and Maps.
The update is being deployed via Android Auto and Google Built-in.
The implementation relies on an explicit opt-in model, providing users with granular controls over service integration and data access.
This allows for complex natural language queries while maintaining user-defined data boundaries.
The feature pulls information from email, calendar, YouTube, maps, search history and other connected Google services. Gemini was first launched in cars via mobile last November, and the new personal intelligence feature launched in the United States in March and is in testing globally.
The update is being released in two ways. Through the application that connects the mobile phone to the car, the availability begins immediately. In vehicles that have the system integrated directly, the update will arrive in the coming months.
How it works and what options drivers have
For personalization to work, drivers must explicitly give their consent. Those who choose to do so can ask more complex questions using natural language, such as simultaneously requesting a flight's gate and information about how long it will take to arrive.

Google clarified that users retain full control over their data. The feature can be turned on or off at any time, and drivers can individually choose which Google apps they want to connect to the Assistant.
