Google is partnering with health tracking app Flo Health to enable optional user data synchronization with Google Health starting early next year.
The integration includes explicit opt-in permissions, strict data privacy guarantees regarding advertising and third-party sharing, and future plans for sensor technology integration.
Starting early next year, Flo users will be able to sync their cycle data with the Google Health app. Google said that this connection will be completely optional and will require explicit permission from the user. It also clarified that this data will not be used for advertising, nor will it be sold or shared with other apps.
How will the data be used?
Those who choose to participate will see their cycle data appear alongside other health metrics in the Google app, while Google Health Premium subscribers will be able to leverage this data through Google’s digital health advisor for more personalized advice.
Future devices and research
Beyond the app connection, the two companies plan to create new wearable devices in the future that combine Flo’s algorithms with Google’s sensor technology. The partnership also includes long-term research initiatives in areas of women’s health that need more research.
