A Reddit user acquired a discarded, rusty crypto mining rig for $35 and found all nine Nvidia P106-100 GPUs fully operational.
The rig provides a combined 54GB of VRAM, successfully powering local inference for a 35B parameter AI model at over 30 tokens per second.
The equipment was found in a garage and was rusty. Neither the buyer nor the seller knew if it worked, while the seller refused to test it before completing the purchase.
The test that succeeded
Despite the risk, when the new owner plugged in the equipment for the first time, he found that all nine Nvidia P106-100 graphics cards were working. Together, these cards offer 54 gigabytes of graphics memory.
For his first test, the user ran a large 35 billion parameter AI model, Qwen3.6-35B-A3B, locally using the Ollama application. The system operated at a speed exceeding 30 data units per second.
