Intero Biosystems wins the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 Startup Battlefield with their GastroScreen organoid platform.
The Denver-based biotech startup, founded by Charlie Childs and Madeline Eiken, secured the $100,000 prize for their work in laboratory-grown intestinal tissue for drug testing.
This overview highlights the winning approach in a final field that also included Apate, Flox Intelligence, Industrial Next, and Satlyt.
What does Intero Biosystems do?
The company grows intestinal tissues in the lab, which it calls “organoids.” Their core product, GastroScreen, allows pharmaceutical companies to test new drugs in these tissues, rather than relying solely on other screening methods before testing in humans.
Second place and the finalists
The second place winner was Australian company Apate, founded by Dali Kaafar. The company uses artificial intelligence to attract and analyze the actions of fraudsters. Apate's systems interact with the perpetrators and provide its clients with analytics to better understand the threats targeting their users.
The final five of the competition also included the companies Flox Intelligence, Industrial Next and Satlyt.
