Explore Microsoft's Project Zenith, a customized Windows 11 configuration designed to strip out ads, pop-ups, and bloatware using a GitHub setup script that adjusts system behavior, removes web search integration, and installs developer tools.
How Project Zenith works
The system is based on a configuration script available on GitHub. When executed, it makes the following changes:
- Disables Bing search in the start menu and distracting tips.
- It stops the first sign-in experience of Microsoft Edge and forces the browser to open to a blank page instead of news.
- Enables dark mode and do not disturb mode.
- Removes the Widgets button.
- It installs programming tools and languages, such as Oh My Posh, Java, Python, and Rust.
The whole process takes about half an hour and involves a reboot. The script is intended primarily for computers with more than 64GB of RAM.
What will happen in the future?
During the Build conference, a Microsoft spokesperson said that the company would consider integrating these settings directly into Windows 11.
