Explore the collector market surrounding rare, limited-edition GameCube hardware variations.

From sweepstakes-exclusive bundles restricted to just 150 units to promotional manufacturer releases, examine how extreme hardware scarcity drives high-end valuation.

One of the rarest consoles is a special edition inspired by the game Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Only 150 of these devices were made and were given away exclusively as prizes in a Japanese magazine contest. This particular console stands out thanks to its unique creamy color, known as Crystal White.

Demand for this collectible is high on the secondary market. Two of these consoles have sold for more than $5.000 each, with the most recent price reaching $7.500 and another closing just under $7.000. Meanwhile, a listing for a console without its box and with minor damage was found on eBay for $3.750. The complete package also included an add-on that allowed the console to play cartridges from older handhelds on a TV, as well as the game itself.

Other rare editions that cost a fortune

In addition to the Final Fantasy edition, there are other rare pieces that collectors are looking for. A case in point is the Heineken console, which was released in 2002 by the Dutch brewery through an online competition. It was limited to 100 units, divided into 50 blue and 50 black, was aimed at people aged 21 and over, and has fetched up to $15.500 on eBay.

A red Gundam Char edition was also released in Japan, which included a controller and the handheld game add-on. Additionally, a light green Tales of Symphonia bundle was released in 2003, with approximately 10.000 copies sold exclusively in Japan and France, retailing for up to $1.500. Unofficial or less common releases also include consoles with painted designs from The Polar Express and The Incredibles, which were originally intended as contest prizes.
