Tesla has demonstrated its second-gen Roadster, featuring integrated SpaceX thruster technology.
The vehicle design utilizes 10 air nozzles supplied by a 600-liter compressed air tank to enable unique mechanical maneuvers, including rotation and hovering on ramps.
Development has been ongoing since the initial 2017 announcement, with current performance claims targeting 0-60 mph acceleration in one second.
How thruster technology works
The car has 10 special nozzles that are connected to a 600-liter compressed air tank. During the demonstration, the Roadster moved up a ramp, while also managing to hover and rotate. Elon Musk claimed that the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (about 96 kilometers per hour) in just one second.
A long wait for customers
Tesla first announced the second-generation Roadster in 2017. Since then, many customers have paid $50.000 in deposits to reserve one. In addition, 1.000 reservations have already been taken for the Founders Series version, which is priced at $250.000.
The model's progress has been particularly delayed, as the presentation was repeatedly postponed from 2020 to 2026. In fact, the most recent event scheduled for October 1st had to be postponed due to weather conditions.
