APT 3.3.5 is now available for Debian and Ubuntu, featuring a standalone SAT solver core that delivers 10-20% faster dependency resolution and 65% fewer page faults.
The update also deprecates key fingerprints in Signed-By options and adds a perf-eval.py analysis tool.
Faster dependency calculation speed
The new version brings significant improvements to the speed at which the program calculates the dependencies required by various packages. This process is now 10% to 20% faster, while the associated memory errors in the resolver have been reduced by 65%. These numbers refer only to the calculation and not the total time it takes to download or install programs.
Within the program, the main resolution mechanism has been separated and now constitutes a separate section.
Changes to security settings and sources
Version 3.3.5 is gradually removing the use of keystrokes in the configuration that checks the validity of sources. The configuration is now moving towards the direct use of key files. At the same time, support for verification rules that were embedded in software repository files has been removed.
