Recent reports outline hardware timelines and memory-driven cost pressures for the next-generation Xbox, projected for 2028 with potential pricing between $1,200 and $1,800.
The ecosystem update also covers leadership changes under new division CEO Asha Sharma and plans for a 2027 handheld release.
According to estimates cited in a Fortune article, the internal price for the new system is placed between $1.200 and $1.800. If it eventually launches at $1.800, the cost will be almost four times the starting price of its predecessor.
Leadership changes and new mobile device
The development comes at a time of significant change for Microsoft's gaming division, which has hired a new CEO, Asha Sharma, and laid off employees. The company is also planning to launch a portable gaming device for the 2027 holiday season.
Why are such high prices expected?
The high price estimates for the main console, which is codenamed Xbox Helix, are partly attributed to shortages in the memory component market that are expected to continue and affect design and purchasing decisions.
