Christmas falls on Friday, December 25 this year, so a lot of families get a clean three-day weekend, and kids in many northern schools are already on winter break by then. A common plan: drive up to a hill station so the kids can see snow.
The problem nobody plans for. The hotel gets chosen for its view and its reviews. But snow doesn't land where your booking is. It might be a long drive further up, on a road that can slow down or close after a heavy fall. Then the "snow trip" turns into a day in traffic with two tired kids in the back seat.
The questions worth asking first. How far is the stay from where snow usually sits in late December? If the road up closes, what does the day look like instead? Can the car you're hiring handle that road, or do you need a local taxi? And is the cheap room still cheap once you add that taxi every day?
Where SearchSpot fits. Tell it who's travelling, the ages of the kids and what "seeing snow" means for your family. It asks the follow-ups like these before suggesting anything, then checks the stay, the route and the day plan together, with a backup day if the road doesn't open.
Why it isn't pushing a hotel. SearchSpot puts you before commissions. It isn't trying to sell you a particular room, so its only job is the best value for this trip, wherever and whenever it turns up. The decision stays yours.
Before you lock the Christmas hotel, give SearchSpot your dates and ask it how far that stay really is from the snow.
