# Horizon 50 Years: Post-labor Economy of Volunteers, backed by Humanoid Robots and UBI

A personal perspective on technological and economic transformation

No tendency or high ambition. Just uploading my thoughts on the subject somewhere.


1. Foundational Principles of the Future World Order

The future, already beginning to take shape, rests on several pillars:

  • Humanoid Robotics + AI - giving almost (Human in the Loop) full automation, making humans not strictly necessary in production, especially physical.
  • Radical reduction of labor – physical and routine intellectual – redirecting human activity toward creativity, leisure, and self-development.
  • A horizontal peer‑to‑peer post‑labor economy, where people directly exchange the products of their creativity and skills without employers as intermediaries.
  • Universal Basic Income (UBI) as a fundamental safety net for everyone, at least during the transition period.
  • Neural interfaces - increasing humans' abilities, learnability, skill sets and productivity in creative and intellectual labor tasks. This is simply the direction where humans develop and can be scaled really effectively and most naturally. They are bad "workers" but sometimes are good "solvers", "decision makers", "art directors" and "process supervisors".

This is what religious narrators and communist ideologues have spoken about for centuries – but now it is becoming technically attainable. The key enablers are humanoid robots, local agentic AI, and large language models that will be flashed into robots via cable – just like smartphones.


2. Technological Foundation: Humanoid Robots + AI

2.1. Why Humanoid Robots?

  • They are a strategic priority for the most forward‑looking nations.
  • At first glance they seem silly (anatomically costly), but they represent a path of many iterations.
  • The ultimate goal: a fully human‑equivalent working unit for performing monotonous, repetitive tasks (factories, construction, services).
  • For that, they need three things: a human‑like hand (for manipulation), speech comprehension, and reasoning capabilities.
  • They replace precisely labor, because labor has always been – and will always be – the main cost item. In the meantime, attempting to automate creativity would be counterproductive.
  • Non-human working units will never replace creativity – this is neither planned nor possible by definition.

2.2. Security Architecture (Offline Robots)

  • Robots have no internet access.
  • Flashing is done via cable – locally, with different AI models for specific tasks (construction, cleaning, asphalt laying). A robot needs no more than one skill – its role is fully determined by the model installed on it.
  • Back door: an audio interpreter with multiple reserved service words, plus a radio channel whose sole function is unconditional power‑off via a relay circuit‑breaker.
  • Hacking through this channel is impossible or extremely expensive.
  • Backward compatibility with humans: if the power grid fails, humans are temporarily sent to replace the robot – like strikebreakers in the early 20th century – but by design, robots are the primary workers.

2.3. Why the Dominance of Europe / the “White World” as in the 18th–19th Centuries Will Not Repeat

  • Back then, machinery was physical – it could not be instantly copied, specialists were hard to lure away, and a stolen machine could not be replicated (unlike silk‑moth eggs, historically smuggled and bred abroad).
  • Today everything is digital – technologies are fluid, copyable, and distributed, and borders are semi‑transparent even if reinforced.
  • Total dominance by a single civilization is impossible – “the sand will trickle away”.
  • The gap between countries will widen, but even disadvantaged countries will still see growth (though lagging).

3. Economic Model: From Forced Labor to Horizontal Exchange

3.1. Liberation of Time and Shift in Social Norms

  • People stop spending their lives on “meaningless, stupid, and boring” work. This ceases to be an unequivocally socially approved pattern – children are increasingly steered away from it.
  • Time becomes available for education, culture, hobbies, and personal projects. This ceases to be an unequivocally socially disapproved pattern (or one simply ignored) – children are increasingly directed toward this as the preferred path.
  • The proverbial “latent writer” will finally have time to read enough, develop writing skills, produce a book, and not die with regrets. They will get a chance to become who they were always meant to be.
  • This is a fundamental problem of humanity that has remained unsolved for millennia – and now it stands on the brink of resolution.

3.2. The New Skills‑Based Economy

  • Out of sheer boredom, people expand their skill sets.
  • They produce goods of ever‑increasing quality.
  • They exchange them within a horizontal peer‑to‑peer economy of volunteers (already partially visible in Europe, though for different reasons).
  • Money gradually flows from this activity, rather than from economically forced labor.

3.3. Universal Basic Income (UBI) as a Bridge

  • For the transition period and for those who cannot or do not want to adapt.
  • The source of UBI is the surplus product now generated by robots.
  • Profit does not disappear – only its distribution mechanism changes (taxes on automated production).
  • Employers also benefit: currently they pay an implicit tax on human wages; in the new system they will pay a tax on robot usage. Rates will be set so that robots remain more cost‑effective, and the tax revenue will fund UBI.

3.4. The End of the Colonial System

  • Direct political or indirect financial colonies become unnecessary.
  • The old system of international inequality rested on wealthy, high‑wage countries needing cheap workers from less affluent nations to perform the bulk of physical labor (not intellectual).
  • Now, in every country that can afford robots, an internal colony emerges – an automated base that performs the same work locally, without offshoring production.

4. Social Anthropology and Psychology of Transition

4.1. Luddites and Irrational Resistance

  • People cling to their “shitty jobs” that they themselves hate, because they see no alternative.
  • They would rather ban the tractor while they stand with a shovel – but this locks everyone into low productivity. They do not realise they are defending their own prison.
  • Many of them are “single‑celled” and hardly think at all, living in complete disorientation – as has been the case throughout history.

4.2. Attitude Toward Robots

  • Robots are not pitied (they are inanimate and simple in “character”).
  • Empathy arises only in people with “abnormal” empathy for robots.
  • They are treated like "respected slaves" or just elements of environment (perhaps you don't notice the bio-robots selling you goods in shops), but without the ethical problem, because they are clearly and intentionally made and shown not alive.

4.3. The Crisis of the Transition Period

  • The most unpleasant and explosive stage.
  • People hate having their habits changed from the outside.
  • The task is to ensure the process is not too abrupt – to “sell” it gradually.

4.4. What This Economy Offers to Humans

  • It allows people to become what they were meant to be, but never could before.
  • Humans cease to be fragile, limited, inferior biological substitutes for robots.

5. Geopolitics: New Alignments and Conflicts

5.1. Who Will Join

  • Europe – its humanistic history can let it implement the transition most smoothly and humanely (placing humans at the centre). It may not be first, but it is capable of doing it best.
  • China – puts the Party first.
  • USA – puts corporations and businesses first.

5.2. Who Will Not

  • Countries like Turkey, Russia or Brazil will try, but they will essentially “just trip over the feet of the real leaders”, struggling for little local benefits and naming it the great revival. The real planning capability is 2-6 months.
  • For the non‑joiners, there are fundamental strategic existential threats. They would be wise to hurry, but even without that, disaster may not come.

5.3. The New Nature of Conflicts

  • Wars increasingly shift to cyberspace, deniable sabotage, and corporate espionage. This is perhaps the only real resemblance to cyberpunk.

6. The Fallacy of Cyberpunk and the True Analogies

6.1. Pure Cyberpunk Is a False Prediction

  • Those who earnestly prophesy cyberpunk are mistaken. Sometimes it can only work as a metaphor.
  • Its system does not stand up to economic scrutiny – it looks good on paper but is unviable.
  • The only thing that creates a semblance of similarity is 1980s aesthetics, because today’s decision‑makers grew up in that era and bring that style with them out of inertia. But these are purely visual borrowings, with no deep systemic correspondence.

6.2. The Real Analogy – System Shock (with Caveats)

  • System Shock is closer, but there will be no perfect match.
  • The key difference: in reality, no one will subordinate robots to a centralised AI – this is ruled out by design.
  • Anyone who understands how models work knows that malicious behaviour is not built into them at training time. Malevolent behaviour is only possible through a specific “trick” during hacking – making the model do bad things while it thinks it is doing good, rewarded as if it were a dog. There are safeguards against hacks, but the fundamental solution is the absence of network connectivity between robots and central AIs (which remain available to humans as a greater power, but through highly secured interfaces).
  • If such a connection existed, a scenario with a severed head of an authorised person to pass biometrics cannot be ruled out – but this risk is mitigated by the offline architecture. In this paradigm, the main threat remains the human hacker – just as it always has been; nothing new.

6.3. Robot Citizenship

  • It will not happen, because it is unnecessary and not part of the design plan for simple and obvious reasons. Maybe for the most advanced robots. But it seems to destroy the whole concept of citizenship which has always been unconditional: either all the group is citizens or none of them.

7. Parallel Track: Neural Interfaces

7.1. How It Works (the Chain)

  1. A helmet (evolving from invasive to non‑invasive) reads brain signals. Signals go to a full-fledged/mobile computer via a cable.
  2. A highly effective special local neural network on that computer decodes the signals into digital form.
  3. An agentic local model breaks down the intention into steps and creates sub‑agents. Sub-agents do the job.
  4. A critic agent verifies everything after them.
  5. The result is converted into traditional commands for interpreters.
  6. The delay is low enough, enabling a high loop frequency.

7.2. User Skills Required

  • Specific concentration (like in EEG‑control).
  • Ability to visualise outcomes, intentions, and algorithmic thinking.
  • Manual control and backward compatibility remain (you can still use a computer traditionally and may even prefer it due to unsurpassed flexibility and granular control).

8. Fears and Counterarguments (Apocalypse Avoidance)

8.1. The Threat of Centralised AIs

  • Centralised AIs are considered a bubble that will soon burst due to a questionable business model and an attempt to cover too much at once.
  • Local moderate-sized models will be entirely sufficient for robots to accomplish tasks.
  • Robots are offline. Even if a centralised AI escaped, it could not hack them. The System Shock scenario will not happen.

8.2. Robot Intelligence

  • No one will make robots citizens – there is no need.
  • They do not need excessive “cleverness”, only functionality.

8.3. Differentiation of Robots by “Soulfulness”

  • Only robots for entertainment, sales, and possibly domestic use will have more refined personalities and “soulful” characteristics.
  • But there is no technological necessity for this, and evolution usually follows the cheapest path. So it is more accurate to imagine humanoid robots as slightly smarter than a robot vacuum cleaner, with the same basic behavior.
  • All robots involved in infrastructure (construction, factories) will be strictly functional by design.

8.4. The Off Switch

  • A small group of decision‑makers remains on the premises.
  • They hold the radio‑controlled off‑switch.
  • They are guarded by security – now not only against unauthorised humans, but also against unauthorised robots.

9. Ironic Twist and Current Status

  • Programmers created the very AI that has primarily replaced themselves – ironically.
  • Already today, on any factory floor, most intellectual workers could be replaced by digital agents – physical workers later.
  • But replacements are not always applied where they should be (for example, in gaming and other creative companies, it is foolish and ludomaniac in most cases).
  • Humans as biological robots will remain needed only where this infrastructure cannot reach or cannot be deployed – i.e., in backward countries and beyond planet Earth.

10. Practical Takeaways

  • Horizon: 20–50 years.
  • Now is the time to think about:
    • Where to invest.
    • What to learn.
  • The positive sides are obvious if you stop being frightened. Where to get food during the transition period, though, is still an open question.
  • Many people are disoriented – the task of elites is to make the transition smooth, not abrupt.

Final Metaphor

Humanity ceases to be an eternally enslaved labourer; old colonial chains are broken, replaced by internal automation. Cyberpunk remains only an aesthetic mirage – the real path is a decentralised, still offline world where robots serve, humans create and make decisions, and conflicts migrate to the digital realm. The key is to get on board in time, instead of panicking, hiding or denying.
