The "Oh No" Moment
Last year, my family and I were at the airport, bags packed, excited for a holiday we had planned for months. We walked up to the check-in counter, handed over our passports, and... silence.
"Sir, your son's passport expired last week."
That moment of panic—the wasted money, the disappointed faces—was the last straw. I realized that trying to manage a modern family's life (assets, documents, health records, house maintenance) using scattered spreadsheets, Google Drive folders, and mental notes was a recipe for disaster.
I didn't want another to-do list app. I wanted a System. I wanted to run my family with the same efficiency as a Fortune 500 company.
So, being a developer, I spent the last few months building Hearth Termed—a private Family Office OS.
The Solution: A "Quiet Luxury" Dashboard
I wanted the UI to feel calm, professional, and data-dense. No cartoons, no gamification junk. Just clear, actionable intelligence.
The Cockpit gives me an "Executive Briefing" every morning. Instead of digging through emails, the AI tells me exactly what requires my attention: a tax payment due, a document expiring, or an upcoming event.
Feature Deep Dive
- The Intelligent Vault (No More Expired Passports!) This is the feature that solved my original pain point. It's not just file storage; it monitors expiry dates.
The system parses the dates and creates a "Time-to-Live" for every critical document. If a passport or insurance policy is expiring in 30 days, I get a relentless alert in the dashboard.
- Running the House like a Facility Manager Homes have complex maintenance needs. I built a Home Operations module to track service providers (landscapers, housekeepers) and appliances.
I can instantly look up the model number of my refrigerator when a part breaks, or check when the HVAC was last serviced.
- The Bounty Board (Gamifying Chores) To get my kids involved, I built a "Task Marketplace."
Instead of nagging, I post "Bounties" (e.g., $5 for Operation Clean Backyard). The kids can "claim" the task on their iPad, mark it as "In Progress," and submit it for my approval. It teaches them about work and reward.
- Pet Office & Health Center We have a dog, Cooper. Keeping track of his vaccinations used to be a pain. Now, it's all in the Pet Office.
We also have a secure Health Center for the human family members to track basic vitals and upcoming doctor visits.
Tech Stack & Design Philosophy
I built Hearth Termed with a "Local-First" mindset. Family data is sensitive. I didn't want everything living openly in the cloud without encryption.
Frontend: React / Next.js (for that snappy SPA feel)
Styling: Tailwind CSS (Custom "Dark Mode" theme for visual comfort)
Philosophy: "Data over decoration." Every pixel is used to convey information.
We are Live!
I just launched Hearth Termed on Product Hunt today.
If you have ever felt overwhelmed by "Life Admin" or just love well-organized dashboards, I would love your support and feedback.
