Today we are launching on Product Hunt! I built FreeLedger to end the freelance finance nightmare

Hello community!

Today is a big day for me. After a lot of hard work, backend bugs, and polishing every design detail, FreeLedger is finally live on Product Hunt.

I wanted to share this here because many of us on Dev.to work as freelancers or have side-hustles, and we know exactly how hard it is to manage money when you don't have a fixed paycheck.

I created a financial dashboard designed specifically for freelancers to help you separate expenses, calculate taxes in real-time, and know how much real money you actually have. We are live on Product Hunt today and I would love to get your dev feedback!

The Problem: Traditional finance apps do not understand freelancers

As developers and independent creators, we face three serious problems that generic budgeting apps (which assume you get the same salary every month) just don't solve:

Irregular income: One month you bill $8,000 and the next $1,200. Making a classic monthly budget is impossible.

Blur between personal and business: Was that Notion subscription or that AWS server a personal or work expense? Everything ends up getting tangled.

Tax season surprise: Tax season arrives and you realize you spent the money you owed the government. You end up calculating reserves at 11 PM the night before the deadline.

That is why I decided to build FreeLedger.

What does FreeLedger do?

It is a unique financial dashboard focused on a single question: How much real money do I actually have? Here is what you can do with the platform:

Real Money Dashboard: See exactly what you keep after expenses and estimated taxes. One number, updated in real-time.

Income by Client: Know exactly who pays you, how much you are earning per account, and avoid relying on a single client.

Smart Tax Reserve: Automatically calculate how much to set aside from each payment so tax season is never a surprise.

Business vs. Personal Filter: Tag your transactions as business, personal, or mixed to have clear deductions.

Additionally, it has features built for us, such as native support for Light and Dark mode and CSV export in its advanced version.

The Tech Stack (Under the hood)

Since this is a post for Dev.to, here is what is going on behind the scenes for those who are curious:

Frontend: [Next.js / React / Tailwind CSS]

Backend: [Node.js]

Database: [PostgreSQL / Supabase]

Deployment: [Vercel]

I need your honest feedback

The platform has a forever free plan (up to 3 clients and 30 transactions per month) ideal for testing, and for the launch we have enabled a unique Lifetime plan for the first 200 users.

But beyond that, what I am looking for today from the Dev.to community is constructive criticism. As developers, your eye for UX and performance is the best.

If you have 2 minutes, I would love for you to take a look and leave your most honest feedback:

What tool do you currently use and what is FreeLedger missing for you to switch?

What do you think of the dashboard interface?
