Why do simple utilities like word counters, text formatters, and diff checkers need heavy backend servers or complex frameworks?
I recently launched WordCountDesk, a suite of 17 lightweight writing and text analysis tools built with a strict principle: 100% of all processing must happen locally in the browser.
Architecture & Tech Stack
- Pure Vanilla JS: No React, Vue, or heavy bundle overhead. Page load times are sub-second across mobile and desktop.
- Privacy by Design: Sensitive user drafts, notes, and essays never touch a remote server or API.
-
Fast Algorithms:
- Token-level Myers diff engine for side-by-side text comparisons.
- Syllable counting heuristics for real-time Flesch-Kincaid readability scoring.
- Multi-threaded line filtering for removing duplicates and fixing line breaks.
- Zero-Compute Infrastructure: Hosted entirely on Cloudflare Pages static edge network with custom DNS on Porkbun.
Live Tools Included
The suite covers 17 dedicated tools, including:
- Real-time word, character, and sentence counters
- Reading, speaking, and handwriting duration estimates
- APA, MLA, and Chicago citation generators
- Case converters, slug generators, and line break removers

I'd love to hear feedback from fellow developers on UI, performance, or additional utilities that would be useful!
